  I performed as both Roy Orbison and as Conway Twitty at Heather's Place in the "Zona Dorado" - the Golden Zone - of Mazatlan. Both acts went over well, I think, and most of the shows were completely sold out. Heather is a wonderful hostess, and really caters to visitors from the western US and her snowbirds from Canada. Hearty meals are served throughout the day and she has two buffets on show nights, one with Mexican food and one for us stubborn folks.
Thank goodness for the talented assistance of Santana - no, not the group! - the local singer, who also acted as my soundman and provided tunes between my sets so I could go change.

I started each evening as Roy and performed about a dozen songs, then bolted back to my condo and changed into the Twitty gear for another dozen numbers. Folks danced or sang along and generally seemed to have a pretty good time with both characters.
Their acceptance of me as both singers was a nice turn of events, but even I had no idea of the difference I evidently projected between my two characters. On my last evening, after leaving the stage in Twitty regalia, a man came over to say he had really enjoyed the show a lot. He was very complimentary, and had a lot of questions about me in particular and tribute artists in general. Finally he ended with, "Do you ever work alone or are you always with that guy who did the Roy Orbison?"
Now there's the Mazatlan memory I hoped I would get!

"The hot sun has cooled a bit and the flash of thunderstorms has finally come again to signal the closing weeks of summer in my little corner of South Carolina. Our region has had unusual weeks upon weeks of temperatures soaring above 100 degrees and my thermometer, my garden and my patience in general has been taxed to their very limits.
Now comes a season of travel as I get to perform on the road in some of my favorite places. Mid-September will find me back in my native state of Massachusetts, visiting with friends and family, sipping coffee at my old haunts and giving shows with Mike Slahetka and his band, "Shakin' All Over". I'm really looking forward to it.
