"WHAT'S NEW"
JULY/AUGUST 2007

"Summer's here and the time is right for dancing in the street. That's what Martha and the Vandellas said, anyway. If your street is like mine, already too hot for dancing, maybe you'll consider traveling out to a well air-conditioned showroom. The last week of June I was back with "Legends in Concert" in Myrtle Beach...lively audiences who really showed their appreciation for the Big "O". That was great - Thank you!"

Wednesday nights on ABC TV: the much-anticipated airing
of the celebrity impersonator contest,
........ - link -

There was a lot of talk about this among professional impersonators. The upshot is, nobody is very sure whether this will help the industry or just perpetuate the idea that we are some sort of oddballs. Everyone I work with has had to make a decision for themselves about participating, and I chose not to.

Sure, the $100,000 Grand Prize is tempting, but as an impersonator who sees himself first as an artist working in tribute to Roy Orbison, I didn't want to put myself in any position that might open Roy up to being the less-than-respected punchline in their jokes.

To my good friends who decided that they wanted to be involved with the show, I wish the very best of luck. The premiere episode showed them in a mostly positive light and I hope they go all the way. It was great to see Garry Moore ("Little Richard") featured as a real attention-getter that first night.

"On the personal side, we happily have my younger daughter back safely from service in Iraq. Both my girls, their husbands, and all of their little ones will be descending on my digs in the course of a few weeks for a gigantic reunion. It's going to be terrific! (And, yes, there will be photos posted here around the end of the month)

As this is the time of year when most of us get away for a vacation, I'll wish you very happy and safe travels, wherever the winds carry you. Take a look at the "Shows" page here on the site and perhaps our itineraries will overlap. I hope to see you soon!"

All the best,
Brian

P.S. Get ready, New England! I'll see YOU in September!
